FAQ

How does it all work?

Have a look here for a breakdown of the process for discussing what you want and booking a Cooking Day.

What meals will you cook for me?

During the initial email consultation, we will discuss your likes/dislikes and meal choices and come up with a plan that suits you and your family. There is a long list of meal options here

How long will you be at my house?

On Cooking Day, I will arrive at our agreed time, and expect to be with you for three to four hours, depending on your chosen meals. Leaving time may vary as of course I will make sure everything is complete and clean before I go.

What area do you cover?

I am based in Camberley, Surrey, and will cover up to a 40-mile radius. See my Pricing page for distance supplements.

Can I provide a recipe of my own?

Yes, just ask! I will need to assess how long it will take to prepare/cook and will then let you know if it’s feasible. If you have a particular dish in mind but don’t have the recipe, I can have a look and see if I can find a suitable recipe for you.

Will you buy the ingredients for me?

I will provide you with a detailed shopping list, but it is down to you to buy in all the ingredients. This gives you greater control over the quality and brands you wish to buy, according to your needs, preferences and budget. It also eliminates the issue of maintaining the cold chain if I were to bring the food to you, and therefore improves food safety.

What about allergies and intolerances?

I can cater for most allergies and intolerances, and this will be something we can discuss before you commit. All ingredients are shown with the meal options for your information, and in many cases I can offer replacements or removal of the offending ingredients.

How will I store the meals?

You will need to have plenty of freezer space available! I will pot everything up in portion sizes suitable for you and your family, and label with name, date, number of servings and reheating instructions. For the quantities I will be making, ideally you will need one and a half empty freezer drawers ready to fill.

Can you adapt your recipes at all?

Absolutely! Most of my recipes can be adapted to suit your tastes. Don’t like mushrooms? I’ll leave them out! Prefer it not to be spicy? I’ll reduce the spice levels. We will discuss all these points before we confirm, and I will always do my best to accommodate your needs.

Do you offer vegetarian and vegan options?

There are a few vegetarian options available on my meal list for those who like to eat vegetarian once or twice a week, but as a confirmed meat eater I haven’t designed this service for vegetarians. I don’t cater for vegans I’m afraid.

Can you prepare meals for babies and toddlers?

All my savoury meals are low in salt and sugar and therefore suitable for babies and toddlers. It is your responsibility to check current guidelines and ensure the ingredients in the meals are suitable for the age and sensitivities of your child.

How do I reheat the meals?

Reheating instructions will be given on the label, and may be in the oven, microwave or a saucepan. The best option will be stated. You must always check the food is piping hot before serving – ovens/microwaves vary, and it is your responsibility to ensure everything is properly reheated. While you can reheat from frozen, with most dishes I would always advise defrosting first for the best results. A good habit to get into when you are reheating an evening meal is to remove the next day’s dish from the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost.

Do you only cook savoury meals?

I love to bake! So I have a list of cake and sweet treat options for you to choose from alongside your main meals. Most of these will not freeze well, so will need to be eaten within a few days of my visit.

What equipment will I need to have?

If I need specific equipment, I’ll bring my own. Please don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of kitchen equipment. The main things I need from you are a hob and at least one oven. Large saucepans/casserole dishes are helpful if you have any. And a freezer of course!

Do you clean up after yourself?

I will wash up the equipment and utensils I use, and clean down the worktops and hob after me. I will also bag up rubbish as I go, including food waste separately, and put these bags in your appropriate wheelie bins before I leave.

What do I have to provide?

I will send you a shopping list after we’ve confirmed your booking, and you will need to make sure you have all those items ready for me, within date and as stated. Tin foil, cling film and kitchen roll will be helpful too.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, I sell gift vouchers for the value of my fee. They are valid for 2 years and cover my full fee, even if my price goes up during that two-year period. It’s important to remember, however, that the recipient will still need to pay for the ingredients. Have a look at my Gift Vouchers page here.
